How long does an asphalt driveway last in West Texas?
A properly installed asphalt driveway typically lasts 15-20 years out here. Sealcoating every 2-3 years protects it from the intense Permian Basin sun and UV, which is the biggest factor in how fast the surface ages. Keeping cracks filled before water reaches the base is the other thing that decides whether you reach the high end of that range.
How much does a new asphalt driveway cost?
It depends on size, base condition, access, and whether it's a new install or a resurface over a sound base. A resurface costs well under a full rebuild, and replacing a worn gravel drive with asphalt falls in between. We provide a free written estimate after measuring your property and checking the sub-grade, so the number is accurate, not a guess.
Can you resurface my driveway instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the base is still sound and the damage is surface-level, an overlay costs less than a full replacement. We assess the sub-grade first and recommend only what your driveway actually needs. A resurface where it'll hold, a full rebuild only when the base has truly failed.
How thick should an asphalt driveway be?
For a typical residential driveway in the Permian Basin we build on a compacted caliche or aggregate base and lay 2-3 inches of hot-mix asphalt. Driveways that carry heavier vehicles, RVs, or trailers get a deeper base and a thicker surface, so the pavement doesn't rut or crack early under the load.
How soon can I drive on a new asphalt driveway?
Usually you can walk on it within hours and drive on it after 24-48 hours. In the West Texas heat fresh asphalt stays soft a bit longer, so we'll give you a specific time on install day and ask you to keep sharp turns and parked weight off it for the first few days.
